Hi everyone,
I have been on a daunting search for local brewing grains, preferably malted grains since I do not foresee me adding the malting process (especially the uber-expensive oven) to my brewing belt. I am making a switch to all grain brewing (for beer that is) and would really love to incorporate a good chunk of local grain into my brew. This is a tough one to vie for since organic grains are just coming to the marketplace, many of which come from the mid-west, Germany or England. It just does not make sense for me to order grains from Germany when we can grow them right here in New England. I also am concerned with the GMO foods and unbearably nasty pesticides (which seem to nicely coincide with the GMO's) that could possibly be on the conventional grains. And to add one last issue, a fifty pound bag of malted grain might cost $55.00 online and the shipping would cost an additional $55.00. So, the long and short of it all is.... does anyone know of a source for locally grown brewing grain or at the least, grains that I know were not designed and altered by companies with Satan on their shoulder (did some one say Monsanto????). Thank you in advance for any help you might be able to toss my way!
Cheers,
Chris
