Rhythm of the Home & Yarn Along

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Today, the Spring edition of Rhythm of the Home is live with an article by yours truly about the importance of working with our hands in the home.  Be sure to check it out for lots of amazing inspiration from all sorts of folks!

Also, I’m joining Ginny and others today for Yarn Along.

The second sleeve for my Hourglass sweater is almost done.  After that, I have just the yoke to go – which will take a little while because I’m going to change the pattern to include a Fair Isle pattern found in Zimmerman’s Knitting Around.  I’m running short on yarn, and when I saw her gorgeous Fair Isle yoke, it seemed serendipitous.  Knitting Around, by the way, is amazing – lovely patterns as always, and Elizabeth’s incredible life story with fabulous old photos.  Love it!

Also this week, I’ve been reading The Natural Knitter and The Knitter’s Book of Yarn.  My friend Sarah and I have been busy cleaning fleeces (remember last year’s shearing?) and so I’ve been learning about what weight yarn I want, and how many plys .  . . really exciting.  I can’t wait to have Molly & Curly yarn.  Hmm . . . which reminds me, that I need to order some shears.  Anyone have some to recommend?

I have knit for 15+ years (mostly the past 5) and have never read Elizabeth. Isn’t that awful. I read your post just yesterday from the 24th. Thank you for speaking out. I posted after I read that about my story. Thanks for the push.

Inspiring post on rhythm of the home :) !! Lately I have been thinking how much I want to take my cooking back. I want to bake my own bread with the kids and just be a little more inspired than our easy go-to meals (and don’t worry, nothing boxed or processed, just overused quick recipes…). thanks for the push :) .

Adrie, thanks for introducing me to the rhythm of the home. i have enjoyed reading various posts. it’s another friendly reminder to slow down and live in the moment. i also wanted to thank you for your openness in writing about your miscarriage. i am so sorry for your loss. you sound as if you have the wisdom to allow yourself time to mourn and heal. i too experienced a miscarriage once, but i was not so far along as you were. it brought up other losses and i felt vulnerable for quite a while. creating things – cooking, knitting, sewing, are all ways to encourage healing. i admire your determination to live a certain lifestyle.
    best regards,
    nina

Heading over to read the article — a subject near and dear to my heart! I love the Book of Yarn and the Natural Knitter … great for understanding the different traits of fibers and what works with what … and EZ always has such gorgeous “save my tail” ideas. What color will the fair isle portion be? Will you post a picture when you’re done?

Thinking of you and hoping you are feeling well enough to enjoy the days.

Your article was the first I read at ROTH–as soon as I saw Ella in the picture I knew I was in for a treat.
