Less Words, Old Words

troisnutpie

Whew!

Well, this past two weeks have been quite, um, interesting, on all fronts.  Home, bakery, Pioneer Valley Heritage Grain, there have been lots of ups and downs.  You, too?

I’ve been loving doing the Ten Steps posts, and all the amazing feedback, but I’m going to take a little break before moving on to the next steps.  Each of those posts has taken quite a lot of time and energy, and I need to recoup a little!  So  . . . today, less words.  More beauty.

And also, words from another time.  Ben asked if I was going to share some more poetry here, so here we go.  This is from the year we started the bakery.

The Salt

by Adrie Lester

A terrible blessing–

to be laid open to the bone,

where the marrow trembles

and sings

with all the griefs,

known and unknown,

mine and yours.

I have wanted a field

where animals could graze,

where I could lay down

in the long grasses.

If this careful work

will be nothing,

if these words will not

fit snugly together like bricks

to form a path, at least

let me have a field,

let me have the bread, the salt.
