“Nonaction is not an option”

As Ella finally fell asleep in my lap tonight, I came across this quote from the Baghavad Gita.  Nonaction is not an option.  What a perfect quote for today (and for much of our lives, really).  Today, despite our whole family having a head cold (so insulting in the summer!), there were three bushels of tomatoes that had to be canned.  We went to our dear friends Seth and Bethany’s house, and between 5 adults and two toddlers, we canned those beauties.

I must say that the sight of jars fresh out of the canner, all lined up and gleaming, is one of my favorite sights in the world.

Back at home, there were escaped baby chickens to be caught and put back into their coop, a horse and sheep to feed, and attempts at resting, while a sick but wired Ella buzzed around us.  “I’m all ’nuffed up!” as she succinctly put it.

One of my favorite things about the blogsphere (what a hilarious word) is finding people at least as crazy as myself.  Or rather, crazy in the same way.  See this post from Amanda Soule and you’ll know what I mean.  On Amanda’s blog she mentioned having a nightly knitting date with herself after everyone else was asleep and I thought “Aha!”  Tonight, with daddy and baby tucked in bed, I think I’ll get a head start on this week’s dinners. All part of my new master plan.  Don’t forget to step outside, though.  The moon is gorgeous.

    What a beautiful sight!

We had five major hail storms in about 10 days in mid summer, and we lost most of our tomatoes. Canning tomatoes, and making homemade sauce has always been a love, and I missed it very much this year. Thank you for sharing your experience, at least I got to live vicariously through you.

And truly, Nonaction is never an option. Thanks for the reminder

Thank you so much Heather! So nice to have you stop by. It’s been a terrible tomato year for New England with the blight, but luckily some survived. Wishing you better luck next summer.
